“Success gives us the strength and failure the desire to succeed”
Honourable chief guest of the day Mr.Bhaskarshakti, an eminent script writer, the guest of honour Dr.Sankaran, beloved CEO Mr.MVM Velmurugan, Dean Mr.Shanmugham, Advisor Mr.Ramakrishnan, Principals and staff members of other schools of Velammal Educational Trust, teachers, parents, my dear students & Ladies & Gentlemen!
As I look back, the academic year 2011-2012 has brought many accomplishments and also made us see the gaps in some areas where there is a definite scope for improvement.
I have immense pleasure in presenting the Annual report of Velammal Vidhyashram for the year 2011-2012 on the auspicious occasion of its First Annual Day celebrations : ‘Navarasam -2012 : Expressions of Life’.
Before I begin, I bow before the grand munificence Mother Velammal, who founded this organisation.
Velammal Vidhyashram has always emphasised on implementation of the CCE norms in all facets of the school curriculum. Some of the systems that were successfully accomplished are:
Utmost care and guidance were provided to the teaching fraternity on following the rule of “learning by doing”. Irrespective of the subject students were made to feel that learning was fun through activity based teaching.
Field trips are a type of experiential learning that gets children away from the traditional classroom setting and into a new mode of learning. Students of Tilak wing were taken to field trips depending upon the topic of discussion to Anna Centenary Library, Birla Planetarium, Milk Diary etc.
Our students warmly responded to help the needy. They contributed a sum of Rs.85,000  towards Chief Minister’s Thane relief fund.
The introduction of preparing class magazine was initiated in a phased manner. Every class right from Jr. KG to std. VIII prepared class magazine. Ms. Jayaseeli, Class teacher of VI E, Ms.Malathy of Class teacher of V A, Ms,Nagalakshmi Class II C teacher and Ms.Kamini     Jr.KG A teacher  received the prizes on behalf of their class children.
Library book review was introduced this year to develop the language skills in the children. Weekly library periods were utilized for this activity which resulted in the extended learning process.
Velammal Vidhyashram annual magazine titled “DHWANI” is a refined selection of the best works from the class magazines and contribution from the teaching faculties.
TEACHERS DAY
“The art of teaching is the art of assisting discovery”. To mark the celebration of teachers day there was a short, sweet and a memorable gathering where the ACo’s shared sweets and a memento was given to all teaching staff.
Green Garden conducted a Handwriting competition for teachers on teachers’ day. The following teachers of our wing bagged prizes.
Ms.Indiara, Ms.Sreedevi P& Ms.Malathy.
Children’s Day
Life, love, and laughter - what priceless gifts to give our children! Teachers of Velammal Vidhyashram, Tilak wing celebrated Children’s day to entertain our students. They presented Skit, Song, Poem recitation etc. Also it made us recollect that there is a child in each one of us.
Teachers get together
Love is the debt we owe one another”, and “Hope can be ignited by a spark of encouragement”. To share this love and feeling of togetherness Tilak wing teachers organised for a get together on 2nd April 2012. It was not only the delicious food that was shared but also the love and care in it.

Corridor discipline
Class pass system was introduced to curtail the unwanted movement of children in the corridor during class hours. This proved to be very effective and students on their part, understood the importance of class discipline.
A good number of students have been involved in comparing the school programme throughout this year.
Club activities
In today's highly competitive world, we have to bear a lot of mental stress and also have to get involved in so many things in order to acquire knowledge. This is where co-curricular activities play a very significant role.

Among that the noticeable competition was the Ad-spoof competition, through which the students explored ‘How to make an advertisement’ on the spot. Two wolves .........................

Description: MAIL POSTED BY SHAHAB
TWO WOLVES

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

"One is Evil -  It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

"The other is Good -  It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee simply replied, "The one you feed."

We are highly honoured Mr.T.S.PANCHAPAKESAN IPS that  is amongst us today. We are indeed grateful to you sir for graciously and readily accepting our invitation.  Let us welcome him by giving him a big round of applause. Sir, we are eagerly looking forward to hearing from you.
I also take this opportunity to salute the valiant personals of our armed and para-military forces who have scarified so much and who stand ready to safeguard the territorial integrity and honour of our mother land.
62 years ago, on this day India defined itself as a free sovereign republic egalitarian secular and democratic. On this 63rd celebration of republic day, let us all gratefully recall the sacrifices of millions of freedom fighters and unsung martyrs of an earlier generation who suffered and labored so that we are free and sovereign today.   For this we remember Gandhiji’s leadership with reverence and gratitude. Let us re dedicate ourselves today to Gandhiji’s ideals TRUTH & AHIMSA.
And this day, also for us the day of introspection, for no self improvement is possible without working at our own many shortcomings and failures that need to overcome.
India became free, almost 65 years have gone. Now we have emerged as one of the scientifically and technologically important nations of the world. In the field of information technology and bio-technology, we have made spectacular strides. In human development, we have achieved significant successes.
In this highly competitive world, this is not satiable. To achieve higher targets, we must be very careful about choosing our career.
Dr.A.P.J.Abdul kalam, the missile man of India had determined and chose his career at his younger age. In his autobiography he mentioned, I quote : “I often read Khalil Gibran, and always find his words full of wisdom. – “Bread baked without love is a bitter bread that feeds but half a man’s hunger” – those who cannot work without their hearts achieve but a hollow half hearted success that breeds bitterness all around. If you are a writer who would secretly prefer to be a lawyer or a doctor, your written words will feed but half the hunger of your readers; If you are a teacher who could rather be a businessman, your instructions will meet but half the need for knowledge of your students; If you are scientist who hates science, your performance will satisfy but half the needs of your mission.” I unquote.
I once again welcome you all with great pleasure and I feel you enjoy every aspects of this event great patriotism.
Thank You
Vande MAATHARAM
